Ephesians 6:1-4: The Godly Family

Paul, in Ephesians 5:21-6:9 paints a remarkable picture of what a Spirit-filled, gospel-centered family looks like.

It is a picture of husbands and wives joyfully and sacrificially serving one another.

It is a picture of children obeying and honoring their parents and of fathers nurturing and instructing their children.

It is a beautiful picture of the family, a picture that we all desire…but one we have a really hard time achieving.

Our intentions are there…but sometimes the execution is not quite what we had hoped….things don’t quite workout like we had planned.

In this sermon we look at the biblical portrait of the family and ask the Lord to bring our reality in line with His design.

Ephesians 6:1-4

“Ephesians 6:1   Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Ephesians 6:2 “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), Ephesians 6:3 “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
