Psalm 51 / Real Repentance
As we continue our series on experiencing the transforming power of the gospel, we will be looking at one of the most famous prayers in the Bible: Psalm 51.
Psalm 51 is the central place in the Bible to learn about what genuine repentance is.
In this passage, we will see that there is a process you can go through and that no matter how bad your life is, how you have messed up, or how broken you feel, there is a way to come out better. A way to come out healed, stronger, humbler, and bolder.
The central question we will ask is: How can we experience life-changing, character-forming, and freedom-producing repentance?
If you are going to experience the transforming power of repentance:
First, there are two things you need to see:
- Who you really are
- Who you really hurt
And then, if you are going to experience the transforming power of repentance:
- There are some things you need to say…
- There are some things you need to seek…
- There is a particular place you need to go…
What resonated most deeply with you from this passage?
What keeps us from seeing who we really are?
What keeps us from saying what we need to say?
What keeps us from seeking what we need to seek?
